Customizable Modular Mini Drawer System

Customizable Modular Mini Drawer System

prusaprinters

An extremely customizable modular drawer system. Parts are designed to use very little filament (from the attached sample stls, the 3x4 frame uses about 118g of filament and the 1x4 drawer for that frame about 28g).

Please use the OpenSCAD file, as the attached stls are for illustrative purposes only.

The concept behind the drawer system is as follows:

Set the outer dimensions of one drawer module, this should then remain constant so that modules can easily be stacked.

Print a number of drawer modules with the same outer dimensions but variable numbers of slots for drawers to accomodate different drawer sizes

Print drawers for a drawer module with subdividers as needed. The drawers themselves will automatically be the appropriate dimensions for the specified drawer module

If you want to stack the modules more permanently, they can be easily "sewn" together with a bit of thread (see attached photo). A small 3D-printable tool for easier threading through the mesh is included.

There are a lot of customization options to make the drawers fit your usecase:

Width, height, and depth of a drawer module (the drawers fill be automatically sized to fit)

The number of compartments for drawers in a drawer module (horizontal and vertical)

The thickness of the meshed walls of the drawer modules (default of 1.6mm recommended)

The size of the holes that make up the mesh

The number of subcompartments (along width and length) for each drawer

The height of the subdivider between subcompartments (For very narrow compartments, e.g. for resistors, a lower height allows easier access)

The wall (and floor) thickness of the drawers

The length and height of the handle and at what angle it converges from the body of the drawer

Adding a small rubber bumper pad to the bottom of each drawer (see photo) that fits in between the bars of the mesh works very well to prevent the drawers from accidentally slipping out.

Drawers should be printed with a 0.4mm nozzle at 0.2mm layer height (assuming the default wall thickness is used). The drawer frame can be printed with the same settings, though for a faster print, a 0.6mm nozzle at 0.3mm layer height is recommended (assuming the default bar thickness is used).
