1/24/17 Revised the cap and made the holder a bit thicker. I caught about 10 mice in my basement with the other versions but ran into a couple mice that were getting out. I actually spotted one pushing against the cap which caused the bottle to slip in its holder and out he ran. Mice are very resourceful. I modified the cap where it guides the bottle opening down into a slot with a lip on the front to prevent the bottle from being pushed back. The cap is now a bit deeper. This seems to work real well, I caught the ones that were escaping and a few more.. I also fixed some coding where once I changed the width, the attachment rods didn't align up very well. For the cap, I usually flip in in the y-axis 90 degrees. Of course, I need to fix my basement too. 12/24/16 Revised the rods so that the ends beneath the bottles are 15mm higher. This allows for a steeper angle and works better, a couple of mice were able to escape due to the small angle which allowed them to lift the bottle end up. I also moved the rod attachments on the cap back flush with the cap so that it can be printed with another rotate. I've tried many mice traps and the thing I dislike about most is that after you catch and release, you are left with a dirty trap that needs to be cleaned. Therefore, I really liked the idea of using a bottle as done here, http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1777105, by CorrugatorSupercilii, . I tried it and did catch a couple but ran into some problems. Issues: Small deer mice won't trip the door. I remixed it and eliminated the coin but had other issues. The door attachment has to be almost perfect so that it's not too tight or too loose. If it's too tight, it won't move freely enough and if it's too loose, the mice push out and squeeze through the bottom gap. I remixed it using a screw and nut so as too make a precise adjustment but still had issues so I added a lip to prevent push-out and solved that problem. Next problem was that the mice would claw at the lid until the lid moved to the side. I have some ideas on how to fix that but I decided things were just getting too complicated, meaning that the mice would beat anything overly complex. I saw a video on Instructables where chrisnotap used a bottle and the trapped rocked back and forth. This trap is very simple and the weight requirement is almost irrelevant So I figured I could make this with my printer but make it a bit more compact. Please see http://www.instructables.com/id/Diy-Simple-Soda-Bottle-Mousetrap/ on exactly how this works. The trap works great. I've caught seven mice (that's all for this year I think) in the basement and the only issue I had was when I used a Poland Springs water bottle. The bottle is so thin that they can chew through it in an hour or so. The trap is fully customizable. The only additional thing needed is a #4 nut and screw or customize it to whatever you have. I set up a sort of a menu at the top of the scad to display all (not prinitable this way) and then display and render individual pieces. Enjoy. Print Settings Printer: TRONXY Rafts: No Supports: No Notes: I use PETG, my favorite stuff, with standard settings, bed temp 85 C and extruder 145 C.
