Customizable twist-in bracket for LED strips in KVARTAL curtain rails

thingiverse

I wanted to put a light strip on top of my IKEA KVARTAL curtain rails for indirect lighting. I wanted a simple solution that prints quickly and that can be installed without screws. The LED strip I use is an outdoor light strip with a silicone sleeve that is 8mm wide, and I wanted it to point towards the wall. The design is a U-shaped holder with a T-shaped foot that twists into the top groove of the curtain rail. It is similar to a T-hooks for 2020 extrusion, but adjusted to the depth and width of the curtain rail. By adjusting the geometry, it can be adapted to other curtain rail systems; just adapt the depth and width of the T-hook. The part is customizable - you can adjust the geometry of the bracket (width and length), as well as fit the geometry of the T-hook to your needs. The supplied STL has a hook with a 6mm neck for IKEA KVARTAL rails, but depending on your print settings it might need a bit of tweaking. If you download the SCAD file and edit it in OpenSCAD, you can tweak with the build plan to generate other accessories to mount things on top of the rail. The bracket prints flat on the sides. Conveniently this also gives sideways orientation of the print layers for good stability, so that the T-hook does not easily shear off. For a bracket that goes behind the rail facing up, instead of on top facing back, check out my other design: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5114664
