Da Vinci 1.0 Fan Mount

Da Vinci 1.0 Fan Mount

This is a mount that press fits straight into the handle on the sides of the Da Vinci 1.0, and allows the mounting of 2 80mm cooling fans. You'll need 8 small screws. I used two Lepa 70D 80mm LP70D08R's for the fans, because they were a good mix of cheap, powerful, efficient, and quiet. They also come with a cool adapter in case you wanted to run them off 7v or 5v (at lower speeds, of course). I just installed and tested mine today, and even though I'm printing with ABS, I just got the best print I've ever gotten out of my machine. The difference is INSANE. Overhangs are much much better, and somehow even the layer alignment is MUCH better than I've ever seen this printer do before - it's very nearly perfect, looking quite a bit like the best prints I've seen out of other machines. (Although, to be fair, this is just the latest in a series of adjustments I've been making to this machine). IMPORTANT: Don't run the fans for the first layer or two, to make sure the print can properly adhere to the build platform. I pulled 12v power from the DaVinici power supply's 12v cable to the motherboard (just be smart when you do this and make sure the power is off - I was dumb and fried my board). I just bought a 6 inch P4 extension cable and spliced in a couple wires, which I ran out to a switch I mounted right in the side of the case. I also sealed up the top gap and the gap in the door handle to make sure air flow is directed straight across the build platform through to the other side. Just print out the mount (it just barely fits on the DaVinci's build platform), wrap a loop or two of electrical tape around the shroud to help seal it up, and it seats in so securely that I actually can't get it back out. :-) If you wanted to go over the top, you could print out 2 and have 4 fans, with 2 on one side as intake and the other two on the opposite side as exhaust. That would ensure the full airflow of the fans is being drawn straight across the top of the print. Cheers!
