The Daniels Double Remontoir Tourbillon Escapement (what a mouthful): See it in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMMgvg5vobU This is a model watch escapement based on a design by George Daniels based on the natural escapement concept by Breguet as ingeniously utilized by Derek Pratt (I could go on). It couples the benefits of the Swiss lever with those of the detent escapement while attempting to eliminate each designs' weaknesses. Of course the potential added efficiency and accuracy is almost wholly negated by the added mechanical complexity. Even so, I find its visual symmetry coupled with its intentionally asymmetric tick more appealing. The latter quality necessitates a double four second remontoir. In short, while you can find impressive tourbillon designs that form the basis of whole clocks (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1249221) or that rotate in more than one axis (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1624844), I believe mine can be counted as the most needlessly mechanically convoluted single axis tourbillon on thingiverse! That said, this is not a 100% "just hit print" design. The uploaded files require the following improvements: A weight drum - It is currently hand powered A counterweight - It is by no means balanced at present, and taping on coins as I have done is far from elegant. Overall QA/QC - Most of my 3d design work occurs after a long day of work while sipping Ardbeg and blasting Postmodern Jukebox. As a consequence, there might be a few screw-ups, most notably the lack of a hole to mount the balance spring (I'm sure that there are others, and I really hope I uploaded all of the right parts). Aside from the aforementioned screw-ups, be mindful that the pallets and the remontoir fork are intentionally oversized. They require a little bit of sanding and trimming to work properly. I'm going to be in the field for a while, so I'm not entirely sure how soon I will be able to do said QA/QC. I also plan to make a separate frame assembly for a non-tourbillon, non-remontoir version for easier printing/assembly/calibration. UPDATE : 25OCT16 I added some "making of" photos. I hope they help anyone wishing to assemble this. Print Settings Printer: Reach 3d Supports: No Resolution: .245 Infill: 30 Notes: I printed everything at 30% save for the balance wheel which I printed at 90%. The whole this is Inland natural PETG. I designed this so that supports are not needed.
