DANO NODA COSMETICS – industrial packaging rapid prototyping

thingiverse

For PrintCity (a marketing federation for the printing and packaging industry) I made a packaging design for a virtual brand to show and educate the industry about possibilities of inline production of high decorated value added folding boxes (using a gallus ICS 670 modular printing system). For the final step I decided to construct and print a perfect integrated cosmetic pot for that folding box (based on the diamond shape) with perfect fit and made for industrial processing. I made this to find the perfect fitting flacon design for that box but also for the first marketing images of the whole project. All parts – including the perfect closing screwed locks – are made individually by me using CAD-Software without any parts-library. Feel free to print this sample pot for your own personal use (please respect the Non-Commercial license). The folding box packaging samples can get requested (assuming for free) at www.printcity.de Instructions The cosmetic pot is made out of three different materials per sample and I used PLA Black for the stand, PET for the Body and PLA yellow and pink for the cap. All parts are printed with Ultimaker 2. The sample prints on that images were made with 1.6 mm shell thickness (25 % infill) for the stand and 100 mm shell thickness for body and cap to let Cura reduce infill to a minimum (important for the translucent PET) and give the cap a perfect finish on the upper layer (Cura switches to spiral square pattern instead of diagonal lines which in this case fits better to the diamond shape of the whole object). I printed the parts with 0.1 mm resolution for the stand, 0.12 mm for the PET Body and 0.06 mm for the cap. Stand is printed without support, cap and body (upside down!) are printed with support from print table only with 2 mm distance from the surface to not touch/destroy the screwes. I also decided to use the parts without extra finishing because that surface fits best to the design (body looks a bit like a rough diamond).
