Dash Cam Wire Clip

Dash Cam Wire Clip

This clip will help keep your wiring for your dash cam very neatly tucked away from view. In addition to this print you will need: - adhesive 2 sided roll (might be called "mounting tape" and can be found in the tape aisle) - scissors or some other type of cutting instrument Your wiring may or may not be as big as mine is. The dash cam I printed these for uses a Mini USB cable, which is a bit thicker in size than most Micro USB cables. If your dash cam uses Micro USB cabling or any other type that is not the same size as mine, you may want to scale this print down a bit. Fortunately these are quite small and will print very quickly so you can play around with the scaling until you find the right size in a short amount of time and without using too much filament. I printed these using ABS filament, but you can try with something else. I haven't tried PLA, but I snapped one of these while putting it in and I imagine that PLA would be a lot more thinner and prone to break. But you can try, possibly make it more stiff somehow in your print settings. I think a different color would work better such as black than the creamy white color I have used. This will stick out more than a black color as most windshields have a black lining around the edges that can help hide these fairly well. You can see how much it stands out from the pictures. My intention with this is to keep it out of my eyes while driving more so than to look pretty. My personal suggestion to you is to print one off that is to your liking then try it out in your vehicle. See how well it fits with the wiring and how well it keeps it tucked away. Once done, print off as many as you think you will need. My printer seemed to print 7 at a time with no issue so I imagine a few printed on the same bed will be fine as well (it did seem to sacrifice quality with more strings than if I had printed just one at a time; but you just clip the strings off and it's fairly clean when done). Next is to get some adhesive 2 sided tape strips and cut them to size. Go back to your vehicle and place them in an order you think will work best. Now stick the adhesive on and then stick them to the windshield. It is best to stick the adhesive to the back of the clip first. Be careful as the clip can be quite delicate, so make sure to not put too much pressure on the clip like I did and focus more on making the back stick to the back of the clip by pressing in. After that's done, remove the protective tape and then place it on the windshield where you want the wire to go. Again, making sure to not apply pressure to the clip, apply pressure only to the back portion of the clip that is up against the windshield so that is has a good stick. You don't want these things falling later, and they do if you don't make them stick good enough. Let them sit for a few minutes to dry and get a good hold. If any have fallen off during this time, replace them or replace the sticky adhesive part and apply them again, making sure to clean the area of the windshield and also applying sufficient pressure to the back of the clip so it won't fall again. If none of them fall after a few minutes, go ahead and start running your wire through. Again, I can't stress it enough, be careful with that clip. Be gentle as you string the wire through the clips and do it one by one, slowly. You should have a pretty good set of clips now to help hide the wiring away. Give it a few more minutes to make sure more don't fall off. Sometimes the wiring adds more weight and causes them to fall off like has happened to me in the past. This usually is caused by not applying enough clips to share the weight too, so don't be stingy with your prints. You might even print off an extra 1 or 2 just in case some do break during this process or some fall off in the future, which does, unfortunately, sometimes happen. Please feel free to expand upon what I have here. I'm also open to constructive criticism. I'm still very new to all this but loving it a lot. I love to get tips and pointers from people to help improve the quality of my prints and designs, so don't be shy!
