Day#74: Floppy disk

The first Floppy disk ever, in its original 8 inches size, created by the engineer David L. Noble and his team, at IBM, under direction of Alan F. Shugart. They started working on it in 1967 and the floppy disks became a reality in 1971 as a component of IBM products and then were sold separately beginning in 1972 by Memorex and others. Also, the prolific japanese inventor Yoshiro Nakamatsu claims to have invented the floppy disk and have licensed the patents to IBM Corp in 1979. This 8-in floppy disk has a storage capacity of 80kB! Wow… you can’t even save a single tiny MP3 song there! Maybe just a couple of TXT files (and not big ones). Man… how the times have changed. You would need 200000 floppy disks to have the same capacity than a simple 16Gb pen-drive!
