DB-A (“long-range Bomber — Academy”) is a Soviet experimental long range heavy bomber, designed and built under the leadership of the Russian Soviet aircraft designer Viktor Bolkhovitinov. This aircraft in the years 1936-1937, the Soviet pilots set four world records in flight range with cargo. Until 1940, the DB-A was produced in small series and were used as transport aircraft. August 12, 1937 four-engine plane DB-A tail number N-209 with a crew of 6 men under the command of S. A. Levanevsky started flying from Moscow across the North pole to Fairbanks, Alaska, USA. Radio contact with the aircraft was lost on August 13, at 17:58 Moscow time, after the aircraft flew over the North pole.
