Deco Gauge (gears, steampunk-ish)

Deco Gauge (gears, steampunk-ish)

thingiverse

A deco gauge (or meter, or dial) that was designed to look a bit steampunk-ish, hence the gears. I needed a dial for a different project, and didn't find anything suitable on Thingiverse (maybe I simply fail at searching), so I decided to create it myself. I think it turned out nicely. No doubt there is room for improvement, though :-) Print Settings Printer: Wanhao Duplicator I3 Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: No Notes: I'd print it slowly with lots of infill, to make sure the surface looks well. It's only 2mm high, so it won't take long anyway. Unless it's part of something bigger, of course. In that case - just do more surface layers. How I Designed This Made in Tinkercad The wheels are a flattened version of http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6786 , the rest, apart from the Omega and Alpha, is made in Tinkercad (the toothed strip is from a shape generator in Tinkercad). I would have liked to put something useful in the scale number area, but I was afraid it might be too small. So I decided to just put in an Omega on the left, and an Alpha on the right (my logo is usually an Omega with an Alpha inside). The Delta in the middle was a later addition, to have something more. Also, it seemed fitting - the gauge goes from Omega to Alpha, and of course there will be some Delta :-) (End to beginning, with change in-between.) Possible Improvements I'm not entirely happy with the gears. They look cool, sure, but they just float there. That's why I added little nobs to connect them to the frame. I'm not sure how well this works out, though, but if I cover them up, they're, well, covered up. Maybe someone has an idea? If someone wants to copy the Tinkercad project, tell me. I've not put it public because quite frankly I think it's a mess and I'd rather not have someone else see it :-) (Cool as Tinkercad is, I always end up with lots and lots of groups within groups within groups. Not even a generous amount of spice could help here, I think...)
