design double shelf
thingiverse
A 3D printable double shelf holder is created using Fusion 360's topology optimization to make the part as lightweight, cheaper, and faster to 3D print without compromising stiffness and resistance. The design process involved significant time to create an aesthetically pleasing and unique piece that leverages 3D printing technology. The original model holds a 15 cm/5.9 inch plank and an 11.5 cm/4.5 inch second plank. To scale up the board size, modify "top board depth" to 15cm for the desired dimensions. Recommended printing settings for PLA include: * 23% infill * 3 perimeters * No draft or skirt necessary * Print with a flat orientation * Layer height: 0.2mm to 0.35mm * Use standard draft or fast settings Custom supports are required, and Cura 4.4 with the custom supports add-in was used. The resulting PLA part weighs approximately 220 grams with supports and 200 grams without. A 20 cm version would weigh around 530 grams. With these print settings, the standard-sized shelf can support up to 12kg on top and 7 kg on the bottom, making it capable of holding 24kg and 14kg respectively. To reduce material waste while maintaining strength, consider lowering infill to 12-15% and reducing perimeters to two. This would result in a part that can resist 7 kg without deformation. All calculations were performed using Fusion 360 with a safety factor of 2 to 3. Future plans include creating a single shelf and similar versions, such as an hexagonal, triangular, circular, lightweight ("weaker and cheaper"), all-rounded, low-poly themed double and single shelves, and entirely new designs.
