Desk Leg Insert

Desk Leg Insert

My niece's fiancee has a desk on which one of the desk leg inserts at the bottom of the leg broke, so his desk was off-level. He asked me if I could print something to replace it, so I gave it a try (my first project). In the pictures, you can see the original (left side) next to the 3D print. They are a little different but perform the same function. I printed this with 100% infill, which didn't add a lot to the print job, since it's not big to begin with. The original insert has a M8-1.25 nut inside it. So I went to the hardware store and purchase a similar nut, took some measurements on it, and left a cavity in the middle (7mm high). I had to add the nut halfway through the print. To do this, I printed two at the same time, so while one side was being printed, I could slip the nut in on the other one, and vice versa. The first version of the file prints directly over the top of the nut, which, when printed, left some strings due to it not having any support underneath it. Not a big deal--I just removed them with some fine needle nose pliers. The second version has the top part, that's being printed over the nut, going up at a 40 degree angle, which should print without the strings. I didn't test this, but made the change after printing it, so that version hasn't been tested. It turned out great and was a good fix for his desk.
