Dial Indicator Magnet Back Plate
thingiverse
This design allows you to use a Harbor Freight (or really any available) dial indicator by replacing the back plate and adding a 0.875x0.4x1.875 Rare Earth magnet available from Lowes Hardware to provide more precise movement of your lathe. Mine is a Southbend Nordic 15" metal lathe. I printed mine at 30% cubic infill, and it seems to work fine. Fair warning, hot metal chips stick to plastic (duh). So I'd recommend recreating out of aluminum using it as a pattern, or just using the indicator to set your travel stop on the lathe, then removing it. Enjoy.
