Dido class Exploration Cruiser Gunboat

Dido class Exploration Cruiser Gunboat

thingiverse

This is a replicate of the famous exploration cruiser gunboats known as the Dido class. Some 505 were built from 2455 and many are still in service now. The most common configuration was to field it with a small exploration craft and a single triple laser beam turret. The designers found that they could use a triple laser rather than the normal double shorter ranged laser used on most ships by using the excess of power normally used to operate the four extra large sensor arrays and the long range radar. In times of intense conflict some ships used two triple turrets instead of the scout ship, and for some missions, two scout ships were carried instead of the turret. The ship carries a single missile launchers which is also used to launch probes for its primary mission. A major problem in combat for this class is the lack of dedicated shields. It carries bridge generated shielding which is designed to deflect stray asteroids but the ship is not designed to go toe to toe against alien or rival cruisers of a similar size, despite its impressive firepower. The small scout ship has no offensive capacity, although on at least one occasion they have been fitted out with a missile launcher in the cargo area. Designed and produced by Titan-Milford Inc.
