Dishwasher Rack Protector

Dishwasher Rack Protector

A small sleeve that keeps dishes from wearing away the soft coating on a dishwasher rack. Instructions Over the years, our dishes have worn away the soft plastic coating on the dishwasher rack. The underlying steel has rusted and leaves stains on the dish rims. This shall not be tolerated! These doodads slip over the upright pins and rest on the horizontal rods, secured with a blob of acrylic or silicone adhesive. The dishes now snuggle into the protector and no longer touch the rack: problem solved. The horizontal half-cylinder requires interior support to prevent sagging. The ridged support structure (colored cyan in the models) should come out fairly easily; I used a concave-end nail set punch and a brass hammer. You must tweak the OpenSCAD source code to match your dishwasher's rods and Skeinforge / Slic3r extrusion parameters; the holes in the STL model probably don't have the right sizes. Multiply the STL model to print an array of parts that will give each protector time to cool before the next layer... and because you'll need a bunch. You can fit 18 copies on a Thing-O-Matic platform without crowding. More details and backstory on my blog athttp://softsolder.com/2012/01/16/dishwasher-rack-protectors/
