DIY Christmas Crackers

Show off how useful your 3D printer is (and your craft skills) by making some Traditional Christmas Crackers with snapper, joke, toy, & hat! Note: The STL file is useless and not required, Thingiverse must have a non-picture file before you can publish anything. Instructions Print out your favorite little trinkets from Thingiverse, making sure you scale them small enough to fit inside a toilet roll. I used the following: Starfleet command ring http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:12478 Thimble http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:40143 Robot Whistle http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:18063 (this thing has a lot of manifold errors, I had to fix it before it would slice) Split Inception Top http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:27680 Brilliant Cut Diamond (cleaned up) http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:19137 Christmas tree http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:34851 Mr Jaws http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:14702 Mr Alligator http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:13612 Simple 3-piece puzzle http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1008 S-Carabiner Stronger Spring http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:169192 Low-poly Santa http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:38966 Micro Digger http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:33305 Micro Dumper http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:32773 ... of course the options are limitless! Cut the streamer end off a party popper (makes it louder and take up less room) and throw it away, keeping the snapper end with string. Poke some holes in the toilet roll and feed the string through like pictured - the idea here is to make a harness for the popper at one end so that pulling each end of the string will set off the explosive (one end is the party popper pull cord, the other is the harness tied to the paper tube). Wrap the party hat (make one out of crepe paper) and a printed joke (I found some at http://www.goodbadjokes.com) around your printed toy and fasten with a rubber band. Insert into the other end of the tube and wrap in wrapping paper (tape the string onto the back of the paper first to ensure the snapper 'snaps' when the cracker ends are pulled). Carefully twist the ends and secure with ribbon. Done! Disclaimer: Party poppers have a small gunpowder 'cap' in them which is potentially dangerous or could catch the paper on fire, etc, use at your own risk. I have tried half a dozen of these so far and haven't had any problems, however I take no responsibility to any damage to property, pets, children, etc.
