DIY LED Photointerrupter Holder

thingiverse

This is a simple bracket for holding a LED and dual photodiodes in a photointerrupter configuration. It can be used for a quadrature encoder, a direction-sensing photointerrupter, or an endstop. The STL is designed for 5mm LEDs and a 10mm slot, but the .scad file is customizable. Add a couple IR LEDs, a 220 ohm resistor a couple 1M trimpots, and configure the LEDs as photodiodes in photoconduction mode (revered biased), and hook it to an Arduino. Using this bracket with an optical chopper wheel from https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5983987 creates the hardware for a quadrature encoder.
