DJI Air Unit Mounts

DJI Air Unit Mounts

Here are several variations on mounts for the DJI Air unit and camera. There is a basic mount for holding the air unit only, separate from the camera. Then there are three variations with an extended plate and mount for the DJI camera. The difference between the mounts is in the angle at which they support the antennae. Each of these mounts can be used as a backpack unit for transferring the air unit from one model to another. All that is needed is for a separate 3 in 1 cable for each model. Finally, there is a mount with an extended plate for a pan and tilt mount for the camera. The pan and tilt unit is based on 9g servos and the tilt plate has a splined socket for a Corona 9g metal geared servo. All of the mounts hold the antennae securely so that there is no possibility of the MMCX connectors coming loose in use. The air unit simply clips into the mount and is held securely. The variations with the flat antennae holders need a little wiggling to get the air unit in. All sockets are available with the air unit in place in the mounts. (The above is not strictly correct. In a hard landing, one of my antennae did come loose. I have now glued them in with E6000 flexible glue!) I had previously printed these models standing on the antennae supports but there is a weakness across the width of the unit from the printed layers. I would now recommend that the units are printed on their base but this creates a weakness in the two clips that hold the air unit in place. This is solved by gluing a 1.32" birch ply plate (cross grained to retain flexibility) over the outside face of the clips. Supports should be turned on "everywhere". One other drawback with the units is that if the air unit is left switched on on the ground for any length of time, it gets so hot that the plastic softens and can deform. I have overcome this by adding an electronic switch in the power wires to the air unit, operated by a switch on my transmitter. I have included the Fusion 360 files so that the units can be adapted by anyone.
