*** Note - All previous versions includes *** I needed to be able to fly my DJI Mini 2 drone at night, the law in most countries requires that a strobe light be fitted to the aircraft. The drone tends to blend in with the clouds and become difficult view at distance in strong daylight reducing the visual line of sight distance considerably, the use of a strobe light would also help to counter this. I found the STARTRC Drone Strobe Light on Amazon and purchased one. However, I did not want to fit the strobe to the top of the drone as most people do, I find it silly that the light would be facing upwards away from the pilot on the ground. Update: In some countries such as the US, an upward facing strobe light is a legal requirement so that the drone can be seen by other aircraft. This is not however a legal requirement in the UK where I live. Please check your countries legal requirements. Update 24th November 2022: New updated Strobon Cree version now has the option to attach a second upper LED to the drone bring the design in line with most countries' legal requirements. FlyTron Strobon Cree Standalone I needed to increase the height of the drone to accommodate the payload, I searched the internet for a solution and found a design by Adec12 (https://www.thingiverse.com/adec12/designs) on Thingiverse (https://www.thingiverse.com/) for the DJI Mavic Mini, so I down loaded it and printed to find that it was a little too snug a fit on the Mini 2 and way too heavy putting the aircrafts gross weight above the sacred 250g make, so I set about designing something similar, the result is this upload. As well as the strobe light to aid VLOS visibility, weighing 6.6g, I also wanted the drone's camera to be fitted with an ND/PL filter and possibly a lens hood. The gross weight of the aircraft would still need to be under 250g, as a result, the under carriage would need to be ultralight. While keeping most of the original designs features, this totally redesigned version is a lot leaner. The final result weighed in at 3.8g while still being sturdy when attached the the drone and the strobe is attached Caution is needed when handling the under carriage when not attached to the drone as it can be very flimsy, it is designed to gain rigidity when attached to the drone and strobe is fitted, pay special care when removing support material. I also designed a simple case to store the skids, strobe and spare parts. With all accessories attached, the drone weighs exactly 250g, bang on the maximum weight limit for a class C1 aircraft. Update 12th June 2022. Version 2 Version 2 now weighs only 3.1g printed in resin using the settings and material specified below. Update 24th November 2022. Strobon Cree Version Complete redesign to accommodate the Strobon Cree Standalone Strobe PCB. Legs hollowed to reduce weight. Second upper LED PCB mount added for greater visibility and FAA night flying compliance. Assembly guide produced. This version is now available premade on eBay.
