Dodecahedron with lovely sides

thingiverse

I am fascinated by the dodecahedron form. In the 2nd and 3rd century AD Dodecahedrons were manufactured in the Roman Empire. Now I wanted to see if I would be able to make a 3D model of one myself. Thinking of how to construct one was quite a challenge. But when you have come up with a strategy it is quite straight forward (and to be honest, quite repetitive ;-)). The objective was to make a wireframe, but in the proces something went wrong and I got these lovely shaped sides. So I kept this design as well. The bottem is open, so you can also look inside (frankly I didn't get to make the bottem look the same, somehow it wouldn't merge with one of the planes and this is my solution when I lost patience to try to figure out where things went wrong). But this also seems a wonderfull flaw, because I am now thinking of printing a large size version and making some alterations so I can use it as a lamp. I will upload the result in the near future. Enjoy printing!
