Doodling Spinning Top Sharpie

Introduction

With these models, you can turn your sharpies into doodling spinning tops. You can choose between 4 models with different degrees of stability. Model number 1 is the least stable and therefore will usually create the “wildest” patterns, whereas model number 4 is the most stable (according to my experience) and will not move around that much.

Fit

The spinning tops fit onto the original fine point sharpies without any issues. I also tested the spinning tops with a sharpie clone I had laying around for which they worked also fine.

Printing

Printing should be a breeze. You won't need support nor a brim. I printed the models using PLA with a layer height of 0.3mm and an infill density of 15%. If you care about optics, make sure that you set the seam position to “aligned” in your print settings.

Final words

When using the spinning tops, I strongly recommend that you put your piece of paper into some kind of box. If not properly contained, the spinning tops might travel all over your table and your floor, while leaving interesting patterns on everything they touch. (I speak from experience. In case of an accident, isopropyl alcohol and piece of cloth might help you.)

If you have questions, remarks, suggestions, I would be happy to hear from you. Also, if you create some artwork using these spinning tops, I would very much like to see your creations.
