Double-Tray Case for 8 SD Cards

This is a remix of a very good design by MartinNohr. I find myself carrying more than 4 SD cards most of the time and I like to have a way of distinguishing between empty and full cards. This version makes use of two 4-card trays in a single case. Each tray is marked with the letters A and B and there are corresponding letters on each side of the case. This allows me to designate one side for empty cards and one for full cards. I chose not to label one side "Empty" and one "Full" to allow for more flexibility (for example, I may have more than 4 empty or full cards or might want to designate each side for different projects or different cameras). Here are the key changes I've made: 1. Kept the same width and height but added a second tray of cards, making it slightly less than double the depth. 2. To allow for easy tray removal, I indented the top of the case on the sides and added protrusions on either side of the trays as well as a grip facing forward at the top. This allows the user to grip the sides of the tray with the thumb and middle finger and the top with the index finger and easily pop the tray out of the case (trust me, it's way easier than it sounds). 3. I moved the tabs that grip the cards up 0.2mm, expanding the top-to-bottom distance for the cards slightly. This accommodates slight variations in card size better, is easier to snap the cards in and remove them, and is a bit gentler on the cards. I found the seams of some older, cheaper cards were pulling apart when the cards were snapped in and out. 4. MartinNohr had posted a few versions. The version I worked from had longer holes in the back and the tabs extended across the length of the card well. I tried the version with the narrower tabs and had trouble keeping them from breaking off. I altered the width of the tabs slightly, though, so they are a bit of a compromise between the small tabs and the full-length ones. This makes it a bit easier to get the cards in and out but still holds them securely. 5. Finally, I added the letters A and B to the trays and to each side of the case. 6. I kept the nub at the bottom of each side of the case and the corresponding grooves in the trays (MartinNohr's original design) as they work very well to keep the trays from sliding out of the case...and they make a very satisfying click when inserting the trays all the way... Some things I'm considering for the next round: Would like to add a lanyard with a small carabiner to allow me to clip the case to my bag--Ideally, the case would remain clipped and the trays could be removed one at a time. If you're like me, you'll lose the case at the bottom of your gear bag without such a clip. Started working on a way to indicate for each individual SD card whether it is empty or full. A tab to slide or some other indicator. I haven't figured that one out yet--at least with a solution that doesn't add to the size of the case or leave me with extra bits to have to carry around. Please let me know if someone decides to mess around and comes up with an elegant solution.
