Double Twin Cell
sketchfab
The various methods of expanding covered dwelling areas, as determined by progressive doubling in height and depth, have led to a so-called typological process. This process begins with the elementary cell type known as the matrix, progressing through single-family row houses or terrace-house types, and ultimately resulting in recent multi-family in-line house designs, which are occasionally found in Pienza as part of terraced house reconstructions. Single-cell homes often expanded upwards during the 19th century by adding a third floor, or merged together to form small online communities, typically with one or two apartments per level. The stairs connecting these levels are usually situated centrally within each building. A survey of current buildings reveals that most have three floors above ground, yet it is likely that original dwellings did not exceed two floors in height.
