Douglas A-1 Skyraider is an American single-seat attack aircraft, originally designed at the end of WWII as a carrier based torpedo bomber. The Douglas AD-1 was spared after WWII as the Navy saw the potential of aircraft. It was renamed the Skyraider and entered service in the late 1940s. It served in Korea and Vietnam with the USAF, US Marines, US Navy, and other military around the world. It was re-designated in the early 1960s as the A-1 Skyraider and the variants renumbered. The last of the Skyraider were retired in the 1990s. It is the largest single piston-engine fighter bomber ever produced and carried huge stores of weapons.
