The Douglas DC-6 is a piston-powered airliner and transport aircraft produced by the Douglas Aircraft Company between 1946 to 1958. Initially conceived as a military transport during World War II's finale, it was later adapted for long-range commercial transportation post-war. Over 700 DC-6s were manufactured, with many still operational today in cargo, military, and wildfire control roles. In the United States Air Force, it was designated as the C-118 Liftmaster, while in the U.S. Navy, it was known as R6D until 1962, post which all navy variants were also classified as C-118.
