####Dovetailed Box Puzzle, Cube Puzzle #####Two sizes: 50mm^3 & 18mm^3. **The small one can be locked up in the big one!** Got a small piece of “treasure”? Try locking it up in this dovetailed box, a 50mm^3 cube with a dovetail cut that behaves like an illusion puzzle. It stands as an interesting design project. The challenge is how to make those “dovetail cuts” along a face diagonal. I used “projection” to do that. First, sketch the dovetails on two adjacent faces and then project them to the plane that contains the two face diagonals of two opposite faces of the cube (see figure). The rest is just extrusion and some polishes. Of course, there are always other ways to design the dovetail box. Inside, one can make some room for keeping a little “treasure”. One or two pins can be used to add more flavor to the puzzle, since the holes are of different depths. ####Among the Files 1. Version A: A square prism (20mm^2 x 25mm) is cut inside. 2. Version B: A cylinder with rounded ends is cut inside. 3. A pin that is 25mm tall with a diameter of 7mm (the holes have a diameter of 8mm). 4. **The small (18mm^3) version** can be embedded in the big one. A small pin (D3mm * 8mm) is optional. ####To Print 1. Choose your style A or B. Print parts 1 and 2. 2. One or two pins. 3. Try to play with the small one. ####To Play 1. Lock parts 1 and 2 with optional pins and a little thing (a sticky note message is great). 2. Ask your friend to open it for the treasure or message. 3. Pass it on. Share and redesign it. 4. Small parts can be dangerous for children. Please be careful and educate children about all safety rules. ####References: 1. Bolt, B. (1984). *The amazing mathematical amusement arcade*.
