Dremel 3D40 Filament Door Latch

Dremel 3D40 Filament Door Latch

The door latch mechanism on the 3D40 is particularly prone to breaking when opening the filament door due to lack of support for the forces pushing against the latch when it breaks loose and slams backward into the edge of its socket. This latch is designed with a long support intended to mitigate that weakness. This is the first design I came up with that didn't break loose in testing. If you use this and it fails, I'd love to see some photos or a description of the failure so I can further improve the design! I recommend printing this item with 100% infill for strength. I also suggest using a raft, as this item prints on its backside, which needs to be a smooth surface to adhere well when glued to the previous support of the broken part on the door itself. Notes: currently working on a version with supports on both sides for cases where the entire support may have broken off the door when the original latch did. Print Settings Printer: Dremel IdeaBuilder 3D40 Rafts: Yes Supports: No Infill: 100% Post-Printing Attachment I recommend using superglue to attach the part where the previous part used to be. You may need to adjust the fit by trimming or sanding the end of the notch to reduce friction when it engages with the ridge on the printer door receiver socket. How I Designed This Designed in Tinkercad using basic shapes and one hole to make the notch.
