Dry box for 3d printing filament (scuba box)

Scuba box is a very popular box in Europe. It is actually the best waterproof and air tight box that I could find. I live in a tropical island so I needed something really waterproof to protect my filaments. That's why I chose the 45 liters scuba box to build my filament dry box.

I spent a lot of time studying all existing projects and I reused many things, improving some. This was my first project, I designed it a long time ago so I'm not sure of the exact stl files I modified to make this version.

The dry box can hold up to 4 filament rolls and bring it safe from humidity and dust all the way to the extruder through bowden tubes. I built it for my prusa mk3s+ but you can use it with any other printer.

My printer is designed to be fed by open air filament. But with this setup, the filament arrives through a bowden tube in the extruder. The advantage is that you keep your filaments safe from dust and humidity.

4 bowden tubes get out of the dry box (one for each spool) and there is a connector for each tube to protect the filaments from humidity and dust when not used.

When you use a filament, just disconnect it from the tube holder and bring it to the extruder. I preferred not to use a connector on the extruder. The advantage is to make maintenance easier and also make filament retractation easier. Anyway, the extruder quickly pulls the filament that never stays long on open air.

Print instructions

SpoolBoxSlider : 2 per spool → 8x

Slider side1 → 1x for the other side, just make a Y axis mirror form on your slicer. It's very easy, no glue is needed.

drill a hole for each filament connector and then screw the printed elements. You can optionaly use a bathroom silicone joint but it is not necessary

simply glue on the side (outside) the holder for 4 bowden tubes.

Sources:

This project is mostly inspired from: "The Ultimate Spool Holder Dry Box"
by ritchrock
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2929701

The spoolbox slider is directly reused from "Universal Dry Spool Box by Flex35"
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3065301
Reused files: 06_SpoolBoxSlider.stl

The bowden tap is inspired from :
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4691036

(This was my first project, I did it a long time ago and originally posted it on thingiverse with precise sources for each file but a bug on the platform lost my info).

I designed the bowden holder and the slider side, I modified the Bold, all other files were directly reused.

Since I recently installed a MMU2S kit on my MK3S+, I don't use anymore this box and I will soon publish the new version that includes a filament buffer for retractation.
