Dual Threaded Bolt

Dual Threaded Bolt

thingiverse

A fun and educational bolt/nut experiment I've been thinking about for a long time but never manage to build, until I got a 3D printer :) This bolt has both left hand and right hand thread on same bolt. It's not divided in the middle, both threads run in full length along the bolt. There are two regular nuts, one right handed and one left handed. Both nuts work with this bolt but in opposite directions. There is also a bonus magic nut that, like the bolt, has both left and right handed thread. It can travel in both directions along the bolt but with both clockwise and counter clockwise rotation. It travels in the direction you want it to go but only when you rotate it.For better understanding, please see the video:http://youtu.be/ITCDk7HZKws Instructions I printed all parts with a Wanhao Duplicator 4x printer with following settings (using 1.75mm PLA filament): -Object infill: 40% -Layer height: 0.15mm -Number of shells: 2 -Feedrate: 30 mm/s -Travel rate: 40mm/s -PLA temp: 220 degrees -Board temp: 55 degrees -Filament diameter: 1.9mm (this will result in less extruded material) -Nozzle diameter: 0.4mm Nut_4Gap might be too tight depending on your settings, then print the 5. It means I've scaled the original nut 5% in X and Y directions. The dual nut is scaled 4%. If you want more gap then scale my nuts in X and Y. To print everything in one print, use the Full_Set.
