E-Commerce: Custom Keychain production project

This project introduces students to product design and production using 3D printing. It focuses on business aspects of 3D printing where students pretend their group is part of a 3D design company that provides customers and businesses with 3D models based on specifications. The lesson centers on creating a keychain with the Company Logo. The teacher acts as client, declaring what should be on the keychain. Students use prior mathematical skills to calculate how many items can be printed at once, based on build plate area and their 3D design. They must also determine how much the keychain would cost them to print and how much to sell it for to earn a profit (10%, 35%, and 70% profit). Students utilize Excel or Google sheets to determine the number of items that can be printed within the build plate area, and the cost of each item. This lesson is part of an introduction to 3D printing section in my E-Commerce class. Previous lessons have introduced what 3D printing is and what materials are available for it.
