E3D Insert

E3D Insert

A filament guide insert for a E3D extruder. I made the Davinci to E3D conversion but was frustrated with loading the filament. The extruder I purchased (knockoff) had a Bowden PTFE connector that made it difficult to load filament. I created this insert to ease my pain. As you will see in the cutaway picture the throat is tapered from about 5 mils to about 2 mils. This makes loading the filament pretty easy. Print Settings Printer: Repetier/Davinci with E3D Extruder Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: .2mm Infill: 20% Notes: The insert is saved 'up side down' and it prints on my bed pretty well without the use of rafts or a brim - but it's just on the harry edge of needing some adhesion help. I would not be surprised if you needed a brim. I have printed with both ABS and PLA although the insert I use is PLA and have had no issues. As mentioned before this is for a knockoff extruder that uses a PTFE tube to prevent filament freeze. To properly size the length of the PFTE tube I screwed the insert in with no tube. Calculated the total depth - the depth that the insert went in. Cut the tube (a little long), screwed it together. I don't think this hast to be a perfect length match, the PTFE tube just has to enter the end of the insert so it doesn't move side to side. Now inserting the filament is easy. Just get it within the 5mm opening and push it in.
