Earrings based off St. Basil's Cathedral

For the Extreme Redesign Project, I was inspired by the popular basilica that lies in the heart of Red Square, Moscow: St. Basil’s Cathedral. I recreated a dome structure from the cathedral into wearable jewelry - earrings. The aesthetic value of this design is its primary feature; whether it be memorabilium from the cathedral in Moscow, or simply a fashion accessory, this piece certainly makes a statement. I utilized three primary colors to decorate the earring: red, blue and gold. These colors and the design itself are duplicative of the actual structure in real life (the blue and white dome of the cathedral). My design will have an impact chiefly in the fashion world, though it may also affect ordinary customers who buy the product. It is not only a chic accessory, but may also cause people to explore further knowledge about the history of this sacred destination. St. Basil’s Cathedral was built to honor the capture of the Tatar Stronghold in Kazan, which occurred in 1552 in Russia. The cathedral was named in honor of St. Basil the Blessed, who impressed Ivan the Terrible by prophesying the destruction of Moscow. The design of this structure was based upon other architectural designs originating in Jerusalem. Hopefully when people buy this product they will be inspired by its uniqueness and seek to know more about its history. The reason I chose St. Basil’s Cathedral is because it has always been a phenomenon and inspiration to me. Though the impressive structure appears to have randomly-placed designs and components, the chapels are in fact in symmetry with each other and symbolize the eight assaults on Kazan. The earrings I designed are a creative and practical take on the magnificent St. Basil’s cathedral. Whether used for their purpose - as jewelry - or simply put on display at home, they function as an appealing work of art and a historical memento.
