Easy Customizable Spool Drawer
thingiverse
I have accumulated an assortment of empty spools from various manufacturers. They come in different sizes and I discovered keynes87's openscad file, but it didn't quite meet my requirements. Using that template as a starting point, I added variables to make it work for me. I included comments to indicate what measurement each variable should be set to. Inner - The radius of the spool's center in MM Outer - The radius of the spool's outside edge in MM Thick - Wall thickness in MM - I used 2 mm Height - Spool height (inside to inside) in MM when laid flat Central_Angle - The degree measure of the spool covered by the drawer - 180 for 2 drawers, 90 for 4 and 45 for 8 Screw_Size - Screw hole diameter in MM Screw_Wall - This is a bit tricky, but it's the size of the circle around the screw. It needs to be larger than the screw_size. I found that a smaller value here (in MM) resulted in a slightly quicker render and print time. However, it also moves the pivot point of the drawer closer to the edge of the spool. Too small a value here and there won't be any "meat" on the spool for drilling. Handle_length - The distance the little handle sticks out You can open it up in the Customizer and change all these without having to mess with OpenScad. To Do: I'd like to add a spot for a label on the outside of the drawer, but I haven't gotten that far in OpenScad yet.
