Easy-slide Bottlecap Have you ever had trouble twisting open a nice, cold bottle of water or soda? My project, a redesign of the traditional bottlecap, would eliminate that problem. This cap opens and closes by sliding a fitted part back and forth across the opening of the bottle, rather than the traditional twisting motion. The cap has the advantage of size flexibility, able to be resized to cover any bottle mouth diameter. This cap is also less likely to get lost, as it stays attached to the bottle when opened. This product is especially helpful for anyone who has difficulty twisting off a cap. Whether the difficulty arises from a sprained wrist, troubled motor functions, or some other complication, the Easy-slide bottlecap offers an alternative that only requires the user to pull on a tab. The cap doesn’t necessarily have to be opened with the user’s hands, either. If, for whatever reason, the user needs to open the cap with their feet or teeth, it would relatively easy to do so. The prototype for this product was printed on a 5th Edition MakerBot Replicator using Fused Deposition Modeling. The original design has an outer diameter of 1” and an inner diameter of 0.9”.
