Adding a RaspberryPi Zero W to a Staples Easy Button enables creation of a user-friendly push-to-SMS system for elderly care. This project aims to provide a simple means for my mother, suffering from dementia, to request assistance from my father. Since she cannot operate a phone or two-way radio anymore, pressing a button is an ideal solution. The Staples Easy Button is connected to a GPIO pin and monitored by a custom script. When the button is pressed, the script triggers an email to be sent via the email-to-SMS service offered by her phone carrier.
