Edge clamp spool holder

Edge clamp spool holder

Overview

This is a spool holder designed to clamp to the edge of a table and hold 1kg filament spools. The spool rests on printed bearings. The holder also includes a little clip which can hold one end of your filament guide (4mm OD PTFE tube).

Printing

I printed my holder at 0.2mm layer height, with 25% gyroid infill (although I used modifiers to bump the infill to 50% around the bends of the main clamp body). Printable without supports, though the tube guide would probably benefit from supports, since there is a 90 degree overhang. The bearings might be tight or loose depending on your printer tolerances; if there's any interest I can upload tighter/looser bearings.

Print two bearings, and one of everything else.

Assembly

Should be straightforward. Thread the screw through the clamp body, and snap on the screw cap to the end of the screw (ball joint connection). Then thread one of the bearings onto the clamp, slide in the spool, and thread on the other bearing to lock the spool in place. Finally, attach the tube guide to clamp body - it's just a friction fit. You should put in something thin and grippy in between the clamping surface and the table. I used some adhesive rubber pads that came with some speaker stands. You can also glue in the tube guide to mount it more sturdily, or keep it in place w/ something like a rubber band if it's loose.

Happy printing! :)
