EGO 56V Battery Mount for E-Bike or Other Project

thingiverse

This is a battery mount that will accept EGO 56V (they really are 52V but that's a whole other story) tool batteries and enable you to tap their power for an e-bike or other project. This can come in handy if you don't have access to a dead EGO tool to harvest the battery mount. Those broken tools can sometimes be had on eBay but are pretty $$. The files provided allow you to use this the way that works best for you. There is a basic mount that you can just put in a pack or bungee down to a rack. Battery fits nice and snug. Then there is a "thick" mount version that allows you to use a locking tab lever to ensure the battery doesn't back out underway. The extra base thickness gives clearance for the locking tab to be released to remove the battery after the ride. The other parts are the locking tab and a wire clamp. The extra base piece is good if you want to mount it to a rack then attach the main mount to that, whether permanently or make it to be removable See pictures for how this is all assembled. But if you are sure it will be mounted and left on the bike might as well just print the thick version from the get go. Other materials needed are some thin stainless steel for the battery contacts and for the optional locking tab lever. One good source of this material is a stainless steel spatula. That's what I used and I cut pieces to size with a 4 1/2" grinder with a cut off wheel, the de-burred with a file. This is not a perfect part but gets the job done. It does take some time to assemble and requires a good bit of hand fitting and trimming parts, like the battery contacts, by trial and error. I may work on it some more and I will probably add a snap on cover to keep dirt and water mostly out when it's not being used. The battery fits really snug and the tab does a good job of keeping it from sliding off. But you may have some other ideas how to secure the mount and to lock the battery in place depending on how you intend to mount it. The attached mount and extra base will give you some flexibility in that and the rest is up to you. Cautions: 1. Be aware of polarity. The + and - contacts on the battery are on the ends. When you connect your wires make sure you get the red on + and black on -. 2. When working with the wires be very careful not to short out the battery. Best to make up the connections and connectors with the mount off the battery. 3. I am not sure how well these batteries will hold up to e-bike use. So if it kills your battery, that's life. 4. Be careful cutting and working with the stainless steel parts. They can be very sharp. 5. May not be suitable for really rough off road or bumpy road use.
