Ah 2020, remember when we thought it was going to be fun and we all threw ever so unique 1920s new year's parties to welcome it in?

Well, this was for that.

Based on iconography from one of my favourite design periods, the transition between Art Nouveau and Art Deco, which itself inspired by the opening of King Tutankhamun's tomb, I utilized the papyrus leaf motif (classic deco) in the classic circlet shape of Art Nouveau.

This transitionary period was extremely brief but extant artifacts produced during that time are stunningly beautiful each contrasting organic with structured forms and motifs.

Print instructions

All of these print flat and easy, no rafts, no supports.

I sewed the brooch to my dress, and pinned the headdress to my turban.

Here's how to tie a turban

The slip cut dress was made on the bias (a'la Madeleine Vionnet ) from a heavyweight silk satin that I got as left overs from the Narnia Prince Caspian film (it was on the centaur cloaks) the pattern of which is very simple and can be found in the images above, and the white is a silk chiffon gathered over the top and into the brooch, to draw attention to it.
