Yosemite Valley's El Capitan is a 3000 foot almost sheer vertical, sometimes overhanging, granite playground for the world's elite rock climbers. Although every crack, and many featureless blank sections, have been climbed the most popular route by far is the infamous "Nose" route. The first assent in 1958 took 47 days. The current record is less than 2 1/2 hours.
