*USE AT YOUR OWN RISK* I haven't done any structural analysis or gathered enough riding data to be able to confidently say it’s safe for use on public roads.Sealed/enclosed belt drive system for electric skateboards. Everything is made to be either 3d printed or CNC machined, a very cheap solution to an enclosed belt drive system if you have the right tools.Designed to fit on an Evolve truck and kegel style wheels, specifically the 100mm Boa Constrictor wheels. 6374 Brushless motors are a perfect fit. Screws, bearings, nuts and spacers are specified in the design file. The gear ratio is 16T/40T = 2.5:1, and the motors I'm using are 170kv running on 12s with 100mm wheels, which gives me a practical top speed of around 50 km/h. An idler pulley consisting of 2 628-2rs bearings is utilized to ensure maximum teeth engagement without losing performance. The belts can be run very loose with no slippage. The motor plates are to be milled out of 5mm thick aluminum and the belt cover, pulley, crossbar, etc.. is 3d printed. I have been running everything 3d printed for the past 500 km. I will post some updates when I mill the plates..Belts are not very susceptible to the environment, so an enclosed system was a must-have for me. I live in Denmark, where roads are constantly being salted during the winter months, making the belts snap every 100 meters. Belts should last at least 1000+ kilometers! So the journey began on making the perfect budget-friendly drivetrain for electric skateboards. “Why not gears?” you might ask, well, I simply don’t have the tools nor do I have the budget to make such a system.UPDATE 23/10/2021:After 600 km of use, I see no noticeable wear on the plastic pulley, but the belt has worn slightly. I never got to milling the plates, which resulted in the mount being a bit flexible, thus making the belt rub a bit, see image: https://ibb.co/t25cNf3 The idler bearing turned out to be a bit of a hassle, coming loose every now and then and making the mount unnecessarily big and bulky looking. I’m currently working on a new design, where I will be discarding the idler bearing, giving the design a bit simpler/cleaner look.
