Star Wars! I love it and it's safe to say most others do too. I grew up watching the movies and the cartoons. Even now I still make the light saber noises when I turn on a flash light. When I went to see the Star Wars: The Force Awakens I knew I needed something to own to commemorate it. Like most people I went out and got things from stores and they were nice but I wanted some thing custom something most will not have. Then a cosplayer friend of mine Technically Toki (www.facebook.com/TechnicallyToki) contacted me because she was making a officer costume from the First Order and she shown me a badge that goes in the center of the officers hat. She asked me if I could make her one. Once it was done I modified it for myself, making a simple tweak for it to have a hole in it for myself as a new key chain: Print Settings Printer Brand: Printrbot Printer: Simple Black Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 200 Infill: 100% Notes: For this 3D print I started out by looking for reference images of the emblem on the internet. once a found a few good reference images I opened up Adobe Illustrator (www.adobe.com/products/illustrator.html) and began the 2D sketch. I like doing my sketch in Illustrator for a few good reasons one being its tool set for line work is robust and the measurements are precise, and I have been using it for many years so I'm fast and comfortable using it. Once I was done and happy with the design I exported it as a SVG. From there I imported the SVG into AutoDesk 123D Design, (www.123dapp.com/design) a wonderful free piece of software from a whole suite of AutoDesk made for 3D creating. After the SVG import was done in 123D Design all I had to do was just the extrude tool to bring the 2D sketch into the 3D world. I ended up going for a thinner design so it would print fast and not be to bulky in my pocket with my keys so I kept it only 2mm tall. I did do two versions one with a hole and one with out it because I want to also use one for a ice box magnet. From the 3D modeling I exported the final designs into STL format to be used in a free slicing program I use often called Cura (ultimaker.com/en/products/cura-software) Now I normally do my work and molding bigger than I need it to be because the size can be scaled how I want it to be and this one is not different. I might go back to this big size later and print some nice new coffee table coasters. but for now I'm looking for a smaller ice box magnet and a key chain. so I sized it down uniformly to 2" or 50.8 mm on the Y Axis witch made the z axis to small so I just scaled the Z axis back to 2mm and I was ready to print!
