This probing tool, was testet by me in 2022 at the EN252-workshop in Berlin and maybe you can use it too. It is difficult to measure the 2 mm or 3 mm in the test-field and with this tool you have all 4 relevant depth ( 2 mm, 3 mm, 5 mm, 10 mm) easy to see. The total area of the tool ist 10 cm² and the window is 1 cm². What you will miss is 25 cm² but one side of the tool is 5 cm, so it is easy to imagin the square 5x5 = 25 cm². The 5 cm side is also useful to determine if the wood still has the original width or if there has been an areal loss of mass. The probing tool is 1 mm at its thinnest point and thus corresponds to the standard as a "blunt" tool. In contrast to the version on the workshop, the version V01 has small ramps on the arms to stabilize them. If the arms break off, the examiner probably used too much force :) but it is easy and fast to print, so take several with you... Have fun to use this probing tool and send me a feedback, if it works for you.
