Gantry back plate to fit 1204 Ball Screw to Z-Axis on all Ender 3 Models This backplate suits a printer that has been upgraded to direct drive ONLY Parts Required: 400mm 1204 Ball screw (readily available online for between $30 - $50AUD) M4 x 25mm screw and nuts x 2 M4 Washers x 4 Machine Settings to change: Steps per mm for the Z Axis Utilises all the orignal bolts, nuts and rollers You will see the results in your prints - the ball screw has no lash and given you now have twice as many steps per mm of travel, is much more accurate and consistent in the layer height and has an added effect of increasing the gantry rigidity left to right. Print in PETG for best results NOTE: To ensure accuracy after completing the upgrade, change your Z steps from 400 to 800 steps per mm. This can be done using the machine interface but can take a while by hand, trick is to grab a cordless drill, remove the knob off the control panel on the printer and attach shaft to drill chuck (dont put too much lateral pressure on the pot) and then gently spin the drill, you'll find you'll be at 800 and seconds. Alternatively you can do this through G-Code but coding isn't my thing and this way if fool proof!
