Ender 3 E3D V6 Minimalist with Stock Fan Duct for Basaraba Direct Drive Conversion Kit

I recently installed the Basaraba direct drive conversion kit on my Ender 3 and wanted a way to keep the hotend simple and still use the stock parts cooling fan. I really liked mediaman's minimalisted design, so I modified it to work with the direct drive mounting plate. I also adjusted Basaraba_Fabricators extruder mount so that it lines up better with the E3D V6 and added a lever to make loading and unloading filament easier. Then I went about the task of creating a proper fan duct which was the hardest part, but it turned out great and performs well. I have also included the 3 other untouched parts you need from mediaman to assemble this mount. Update ---------- • 2/29/2019: The final duct design is up. The new design has less restrictive airflow near the top and is better centered at the bottom. Also, the circle cut out for the opening at the bottom is now centered around the nozzle in my model to improve the airflow. Printing Notes ------------------- • Print the duct with ABS or PETG as it sits close to the heater block. • You will want to print the duct with supports placement everywhere or the fan mounts will fail. You can use pliers to pull the support material straight up and out of the top of the duct or place support blockers inside the duct in your slicer program. Installation Notes ----------------------- • You will need two M3x35mm socket head screws for the thicker spacer block. • Install the BLTouch mount first, then the E3D V6 mount. • Install the E3D V6 mount before attaching the hotend. • I left just enough space between the hotend and direct drive mounting plate for the heater and thermistor wires to run behind the block and BLTouch. • Install the duct before attaching the fan. Do not overtighten or the nut will just spin. • Re-use the 2 longer parts fan screws to mount your fan to the duct. • Run the parts fan wires behind the PTFE tube before attaching the extruder motor.
