Ender 3 Extruder Knob with Magnetic Top

Ender 3 Extruder Knob with Magnetic Top

There are many great extruder knobs out there, and I've used several. A couple issues I've had are: They wear out and get loose over time. I have to remove them if I need access to the extruder gear area. I get bored of the design and want a new one. To try and resolve these issues, I've designed an extruder knob that has a base that fits to the extruder shaft, and a magnetically connected knob that can be easily removed when desired! First is the collar that fits onto the 5mm extruder shaft. I designed this to fit snug, but not too snug and included a hole where you can use a m3 bolt as a set screw to help hold it in place. Also, this piece is only the collar, but is designed with a space in the top for a 8x3mm neo magnet. The second part is the knob itself, or knob-top as I call it. It's designed to fit onto the collar, and also has a space for it's own 8x3mm neo magnet. The two magnets make for a strong connection and keep the top on snug. It's also easily removed if I need access to the area below. Also when I'm ready for a new look, I can take the base top and make new knobs and just slap them on. There are 3 stl files included: 1: The Collar: This is the base piece. It should be printed at 100% infill, min .2 layer height to ensure strength for the set screw (m3 Bolt). Before fitting it, pre-thread the set screw hole by inserting the bold and threading it through so it tightens more easily when instaling. It's a tight fit by design. The magnet should fit snug, but feel free to add a drop of glue to ensure a tight hold. Then firmly press it onto the extruder shaft. When attaching, do not over-tighten the screw if printed in PLA. Just tighten enough for a good solid fit. ** 7/30/19 Update: added collar v2 which has a slightly smaller set screw hole for a tighter fit as well as an extruded area to allow more material to reduce stripping and ensure a better hold 2: My first knob. This knob is about 48mm diameter. Nice and big with a fairly simple design. I'll be making more soon I'm sure. Again, the magnet slot should be a snap in fit, but you may want a drop of glue here as well. Then it just pops onto the collar and you are in business! 3: Knob Center: This is just the top part that fits onto the collar. Use this as a foundation and make your own knob! ᕦ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)ᕤ They Like me, they really really like me.. don't they??? If you like my designs, PLEASE hit that like button and let me know. If you print my design, post a make! I love seeing how other makers prints come out and how they use them. If you get some good use out of my design, consider a tip to encourage me to do more! ¯( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)/¯ Please Keep comments relative to the design or print, but feel free to leave a comment or question.
