Enthroned woman

Enthroned woman

myminifactory

This is a partly preserved marble sculpture of an unknown woman sitting on a throne which once was a part of the Goths' Wall in Miletus, Turkey. The box-shaped throne goes back to ancient Near Easters models and emphasises the high social status of this woman. On the right side of the throne, one can see remains of a votive inscription deleted already in antiquity that can be explained by its re-use as a grave monument.
