Mock up for ER40 collet chuck for lathe. DO NOT RUN A PLASTIC CHUCK ON A LATHE. This is for testing dimensions before committing the design to metal. Collets are great for holding cylindrical stock. ER40 size is a good match for my 9x20 lathe. Inexpensive collet sets are available but you need a method to attach the collet to the lathe. Turning your own collet chuck is probably the most precise and inexpensive method. But this is a time and metal consuming operation so it's worth testing the design with a 3D print.
