Espresso Tamper (50mm)

Espresso Tamper (50mm)

thingiverse

A remix of the @alga42's design of a 58mm Espresso Tamper. This is a 50mm version, with a few changes to it and its holder as well. I made the grip a bit oblong. not visually noticeable but IMHO it fits nicer into a human hand when it's slightly oval. Result feels good. Changed the tamper end to 50mm, so it fits into a Salton-brand (not-so–fancy-but-serviceable) espresso maker. (EX-96) Made the base a bit thicker. I've removed a big chunk of material from the interior of the handle. And even at 25% fill, it still feels very solid, so that worked well and saves much filament. Note there's a file for just the tamper and another for the tamper plus the modified holder unit. I haven't tried to print the holder, but it should work. Let me know if you try it! I adjusted the entry-point for the tamper, as it looked a little shallow in the original design, and I worried it might flop out of the holder. Given the nice colour match to my unit, I'm happy to just sit the tamper on top (see the picture). A fun idea - as it was building, I realized I could throw a few coffee beans into the cavity in the handle, and they would rattle pleasantly when I shook it, yet not be removable without a hammer or drill. Fun stuff. (see pic). An added bonus, the white PLA filament (Monoprice) I used is a near perfect colour match for the Salton unit, so it looks nice sitting on top. Caffeine up! Print Settings Printer: MP Select Mini Rafts: Yes Supports: No Resolution: .2mm Infill: 25% Notes: Without a raft would probably be fine too if you've got good adhesion and a nice smooth build surface. I also used a 2mm thick base-layer setting, as that's the business end. Don't want that cracking into the honeycomb interior with repeated use. With these settings I was just under 50g of (PLA) filament. The hollowing of the handle saves you quite a bit. How I Designed This This remix was done with Blender, working from @alga42's original STL files. Thanks for the original work!
