This is a 3D model of the Estes Cherokee-E model rocket (kit #2408) sold exclusively by Hobby Lobby crafts and hobbies stores across the USA. https://www.hobbylobby.com/Crafts-Hobbies/Hobbies-Collecting/Rockets/Cherokee-E-Model-Rocket-Kit/p/80959023 History: The Estes Cherokee-D was produced from 1970-1983 and designed by Gene Street. This kit used D motors. https://www.rocketreviews.com/cherokee-d---estes-1247-k-47-1971-1983.html http://www.vintageestesrockets.com/k-kit-registry/kits/k47-astron-cherokee-d.htm http://www.ninfinger.org/rockets/nostalgia/70est098.html From 1987 to1992 AAA Model Aviation Fuels produced and sold a 2.1 (54mm) inch diameter Cherokee-G kit that used G motors. https://www.rocketreviews.com/cherokee-g---aaa-model-aviation-fuels-6-1987-.html The Cherokee-E by Estes was released in 2019 and uses E motors. https://www.rocketreviews.com/--cherokee-e.html Differences between the D and the E models: A) The kit made its first catalog appearance and shipped in 1970 with kit #K-47. The airframe tube was 16.35 inches(415.29mm) long. It had a balsa nose cone with balsa fins were 1/8 inch(3.175mm) thick. B) Starting in 1971 the kits that were shipped with tubes that were 18 inches(457.2mm) long. Between the beginning and end of its production years the nose cones switched over to plastic and the balsa fin thickness was reduced to 3/32 inch (2.38mm). In 1975 the kit number changed to #1247. C) The Cherokee-E has been stretched in length even further by 6 inches (152.4mm). Uses Estes E motors and other motors that are 24mm x 95mm. The kit comes with a motor adapter to allow you to fly with D motors and others that are 24mm x 70mm. Note: The changes to airframe length was to ensure stability. You can do the same without adding the additional length by adding more weight to the nose cone. Parts List: (1) PNC-55AC Nose cone (3) Die-cut balsa fins 3/32 inch thickness or 2.52mm (2) Fin alignment guides made from balsa (1) BT-55 airframe tube ID: 1.283 inches (32.59mm), OD: 1.33 inches (33.78mm), Length: 18 inches (457.2mm) (1) BT-55 airframe tube, Length: 6 inches (152.4mm) (1) BT-50 motor mount tube, ID: 0.950 in (24.1 mm), OD: 0.976 in (24.8 mm), Length: 4 inches (101.6mm) (2) AR-5055 BT-50 to BT-55 motor mount rings, ID: 0.99 inches, (25.0mm), OD: 1.28 inches (32.4 cm), Length: 0.31 inches (7.9 mm) (1) Engine Block, ID: 0.75 inches(18.9mm), OD: 1.28 inches (32.4mm), Length: 0.31 inches (7.9mm) (1) E motor Engine Hook (1) Spacer, "E" to "D" Engine ID: 0.72 inches (18.3mm), OD: 0.91 inches (23.2mm), Length: 1.00 inch (25.4mm) (1) Shock cord (1) Shock cord mount (1) Parachute, Diameter:18 inches (457.2mm) (1) Launch lug, Diameter: 1/8 inch (3.175mm) (1) Decal sheet The STL files for the fins have five different types: A) Plain, hard edges B) Rounded edges C) NACA 0008 airfoil (aka HD0008; 8% thickness, 0% camber) D) Supersonic airfoil E) Fin marking guide for use in making your own fins out of balsa or other materials. There are two fincans available that are for the main rocket and one for an optional booster stage. They have a unrounded, hard-edge version, a rounded version, an airfoiled version, and a supersonic airfoil version. They will fit over BT-55 airframe tubing. Decals can be printed on decal paper from the pic of the decals posted here. I have included a preliminary BT-55 fin guide for the Cherokee. Allows fins up to 2.52mm in thickness like the ones in the kit. Booster Details: Parts: (1) BT-55 airframe tube; length: 6 inches (152.4mm); you can borrow this from the kit or create a new one. Mine model borrowed from the kit. This is why the sustainer looks shorter than the stock kit photo. (1) BT-50 motor mount tube; length: 6 inches (152.4mm) offset back below the airframe tube about 20.3mm (13/16 inch) that is even with the end of the boat tail. (1) Estes Adapter ring 2050/24mm engine block (2) Estes Adapter ring AR-5055 (fit over BT-50 motor mount tube) (1) E motor engine hook (1) 24mm boat tail (3) 70% size booster fins (1) BT-55 tube coupler; length: 50.8mm (2 inches) 57g or 2 oz. of clay added into the inside of the tip of the nose cone of the sustainer stage. Note #1: If you choose to place the fins toward the front of the booster stage you will need to add more clay to the nose cone. Note#2: You will also need to drill two holes 180 degrees about 4.76mm (3/16 inch) in diameter. This allows for gap staging to occur without the booster prematurely separating from the sustainer. Note#3: I have named the two-stage configuration the Cherokee-EE. 7DEC2019 The kit fin alignment guide was added. It is based on the actual dimensions from the kit. 7DEC2019 Added two versions of a BT-55 to 24mm (BT-50 tubing) boat tail. 9APR2020 Added flat, unrounded and supersonic fins that are 70% of the standard fins for booster stage as well as booster fin cans. 70% fin marking guide and simulated nozzele were added, also. The first two photos are a standard Cherokee-D with the second being a Goony version of it. The last two photos are upscales using a J or K motor and the other using an N motor.
