This is my latest 3D printing project, and I'm excited to share it with you all! Introducing the Filament Spool Container, a versatile and customizable storage system designed to repurpose filament spools into functional containers. Say goodbye to wasted space and hello to organized 3D printing accessories! I couldn't find one that had everything I wanted, so I made my own. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- This project features the following components: Tall Container x1, x2, x3: The Tall Containers are specifically designed to convert standard filament spools into spacious containers. With multiple options available (x1, x2, x3), you can choose the configuration that suits your storage needs best. These containers provide ample room to store items such as small tools, spare parts, or other 3D printing accessories. Short Container x1, x2, x3: The Short Containers are designed for stacking two containers on top of each other, creating a compact and efficient storage solution. Similar to the Tall Containers, these variations (x1, x2, x3) give you the flexibility to create a container system that matches your requirements perfectly. Pin: The Pin is a small component used when stacking the Short Containers. It acts as a securing mechanism, holding the two stacked containers together and preventing them from separating or shifting. Core Bearing Slider: The Core Bearing Slider, when paired with marbles, allows you to create a functional bearing system. By placing marbles between two of the bearing pieces and attaching them to the center holes of the filament spools, you can achieve smooth rotation and easy access to the contents of the containers. Hole Aligner: The Hole Aligner is a practical tool designed to align the holes on one side of the spool to the corresponding holes on the other side. This ensures consistent and accurate hole placement for attaching the containers securely. Hole Stencil: The Hole Stencil simplifies the process of creating the initial holes on the spool. By using the stencil, you can easily mark and drill the hole positions before drilling, ensuring precise and symmetrical hole placement. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- To create your Filament Spool Containers and make use of their features, follow these steps: 1. Begin by using the Hole Stencil to mark and drill the initial holes on the spool. 2. Once the initial holes are drilled, use the Hole Aligner to "transfer" one of the initial hole's positions from one side of the spool to the corresponding position on the other side. This allows for consistent alignment of the holes. Take your time with this step, as it's not a fool-proof method. 3. Once one of the holes has been successfully transferred, use the Hole Stencil again to mark and drill the remaining three holes. 4. Assemble the Tall and/or Short Containers according to your desired configuration. If using the Short Containers, stack two containers together and secure them using the Pin to hold them firmly in place. 5. Insert M4 screws through the pre-drilled holes to securely attach and stack the containers together. 6. If desired, add labels to each compartment for easy identification of contents. 7. To enable smooth rotation, insert marbles into the Core Bearing Slider and attach it to the center hole of the filament spool. This creates a functional bearing system, allowing for effortless access to the container's contents. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Extra Materials Required: Marbles: 16mm ± 0.5mm -> 7-9 marbles per bearing M4 screws 8 per Spool -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ChatGPT took part in this description.
